The Town of Buxton is seeking an individual to direct and supervise the activities of the Public Works Department. This individual will be responsible for road maintenance and snow removal for approximately 115 miles of public highway, preparation and administration of an annual budget totaling $900,000. The Public Works Director has direct supervision over all Public Works personnel, which includes one full time mechanic, seven full time employees, and several seasonal personnel. This is a “hands on” working supervisory position that involves directing and assisting the Public Works crew handling highway maintenance, snow removal, sanding, operation of heavy equipment, tree and brush removal, and other duties related to this operation. This position requires a practical knowledge of road construction, materials and methods, construction equipment operation, and the ability to read and interpret engineering road plans. It also requires the ability to exercise good judgment and technical expertise to meet the Department’s goals and objectives. Must be able to interact well with co-workers at all levels and handle citizen complaints in a calm and professional manner. The job requires the agility and strength to perform heavy manual labor such as lifting, shoveling, raking, using a chainsaw, and working outside in adverse weather conditions. Education Requirement: High School Diploma or equivalent GED. Must have and maintain an active CDL and Class B Driver’s License and will be required to pass any and all random drug and alcohol tests.
Pay Rate: $32.31 per hour Full benefit package including paid holidays, vacation and sick time, disability, dental, vision and 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan
