Voters of the Town of Buxton are being asked to allocate an additional $231,000 in employee costs above and beyond the amounts that have already been approved at the annual town meeting two and a half weeks ago.
The vote will be held in the Bar Mill Fire Station at 174 Portland Road, Buxton on the August 19, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. You may vote only at this time, publicly and in person, in a facility controlled by town employees who may have a personal financial interest in the outcome.
Article 1. Choose a moderator
Article 2. To see if the Town of Buxton will vote to join the Maine Public Employees Retirement System as a Participating Local District effective September 1, 2020, and:
a.) To offer Special Plan 2C to its full-time firefighters, police officers, dispatchers and any future Emergency Medical Services workers who work at least 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year;
b.) To offer Regular Plan AC to its full-time general government employees who work at least 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year;
c.) To authorize Chad Poitras, Selectmen Chair to sign the contract between the Town and Maine Public Employees Retirement System;
d.) To exclude all other employees from participating in MainePERS, including its select board members;
e.) To allow its eligible employees who are currently employed by the Town on September 1, 2020, who elect to join MainePERS, to purchase prior service upon the employee’s full payment of all associated costs. The Town ofBuxton will not participate in the purchase of prior service and so employees are responsible for paying the full liability associated with this service.
Article 3. To see what sum not to exceed $231,000.00 (Two Hundred Thirty One Thousand Dollars) the town will vote to contribute to the Maine Public Employees Retirement System Fund for full time employees.
