Buxton Officer Warren Day received information reference a possible domestic violence criminal threatening incident that had taken place at 19 Depot Street. Further investigation revealed that Andrew Forbis, 44yo of that address had threatened his mother.
Forbis had threatened his mother on two separate occasions, the first taking place on Friday the 14th at approximately 4:00 pm at the residence. During that incident Forbis is alleged to have threatened to kill his mother with a “cane sword”.
The second incident took place on the morning of Monday the 17th at approximately 9:30 am in which he threatened to shoot his mother in the eye with a BB/Pellet pistol.
It was unknown if Forbis possessed any firearms in addition to the BB/Pellet pistol. Officer Day contacted Chief Troy Cline and he responded to the scene to assist.
After receiving a briefing, Chief Cline attempted to convince Forbis to exit the residence to speak to him. Forbis initially agreed to exit the residence and changed his mind shortly afterward.
Chief Cline requested the assistance of the Maine State Police Tactical and Crisis Negotiation Teams (CNT) to resolve the situation.
Officer Day completed both arrest and search warrant affidavits for Forbis and the residence which were subsequently approved by a District Court judge. The arrest warrant was for Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon and Creating a Police Standoff.
MSP CNT personnel negotiated with Forbis for approximately three and a half (3.5) hours and finally convinced him to exit the residence.
When Forbis began to actively resist arrest by the MSP Tactical Team, he was brought to the ground and handcuffed. Forbis received minor injuries as a direct result of his resistance.
Forbis was transported to Maine Medical Center (MMC) by Buxton Fire-Rescue (BFR) personnel and Officer Christopher Gray. He was treated and subsequently transported to the York County Jail in Alfred.
Forbis is scheduled to be arraigned in Springvale District Court at 1:00 pm on February 18.
