Ernestine Hewett Whitman, 78, passed away on February 4, 2019, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. The daughter of Ernest and Isabelle (Groves) Hewett, she was one of 10 children and was born in Winthrop, Maine on March 6, 1940. She attended Winthrop schools and graduated from Cony High School. She married Paul Whitman on September 14, 1957. They lived in Portland for a brief time and then moved to Standish to raise their family. She worked for GTE Sylvania in Standish for 29 years, retiring in 1995. Ernie enjoyed playing golf, and she was a member of the Naples Golf Club Women’s League. She enjoyed camping with her husband, was a member of the Good Sam’s Club and looked forward to their yearly camping trip to the Fryeburg Fair. After retirement they enjoyed winters in Florida. She liked to knit and bake. Above all loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Paul Whitman; her sons, Bruce Whitman and wife, Linda, of Pennsylvania, Mark Whitman and wife, Naomi, of Limington; her daughters, Brenda Buzzell and husband, Butch, of East Baldwin, and Stacy Nunley and husband, John, of Gray; her grandchildren, Corey, Heath, Darcy, Lance, Lindsay, Christopher, Megan, David, Marcus, and Kyle; and her great-grandchildren, Madison K, Miller, Ella, Emily, McKenna, Bentley, Kinleigh, and Madison M.

Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Saturday, February 9, 2019 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Windham Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee, 434 River Road. A celebration of life will follow at 3:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will take place in East Winthrop at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Gosnell Memorial, Hospice House, 11 Hunnewell Road, Scarborough ME 04074 or to the Brandon Thibeau Scholarship Fund, Cumberland Maine Fire Association, 366 Tuttle Road, Cumberland ME 04021.
