The Town of Buxton has an immediate opening for a highly motivated; community oriented full time Dispatcher. Qualified candidates must be 18 years of age, Associate’s Degree in Communications, Criminal Justice, Computer Science or related field, or a combination of relevant training and experience is desirable. Preference is given to graduates of the Terminal Operator’s Certification and Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) courses through the Maine Criminal Justice Academy (MCJA).
Responsible for answering incoming calls to the communications center by way of telephone and the 9-1-1 Emergency Phone system for Police, Fire and Rescue, and Animal Control services. Collect pertinent information from callers and disseminate that information to responding units or agencies. Provide pre-arrival emergency medical instructions where needed. Operate the radio systems for the police and fire departments. Monitor and dispatch for all police and fire alarm activations. Maintain the CAD records of all responses and services provided by the police and fire departments. Receive requests for other town services (i.e. department of public works) after hours, on weekends and holidays and initiate the appropriate notifications. Process all paperwork, data entry and alert notifications for all missing persons, stolen vehicles, arrested individuals, etc. Responsible for greeting and providing services to visitors to the police station’s lobby.
Candidates must have no criminal or adverse traffic record and will be required to pass a polygraph, medical, psychological tests and an extensive background check.
The Town of Buxton has a year round population of approximately 8,034 and has been identified as a “bedroom community” for the greater Portland area. The Buxton Police Department provides 24 hour coverage, 7 days a week and is actively engaged in the community.
