The Bar Mills and Canal Bridge replacement now has visible progress. Much of the land along and next to the bridge route has been cleared and the power company is preparing to move their power lines from the upriver side of the current bridge to the downriver side. The new poles are much larger and more numerous then the poles being replaced.
Work has begun on the Hollis side bridge abutment in the canal to the generating station. Steel work has been placed in the river and material has been cleared to bedrock using excavators. Final preparation of the bedrock is being performed using a pump to remove most of the remaining material. The remaining abutments, which are in the Saco River, cannot be started until June 16th due to fish spawning restrictions.
